no longer forgotten music

Nice music, hard to get

Seemen ‎– In Your Hands (cassette, Exart, 1989?)"

Despite various releases that I see on Discogs I only heard this tape. Apparently they are an "experimental group from Austin, Texas" with one Kai Spelletich as their sole member.

Blue Murder (cassette, Staaltape, 1982)"

People often think that Staaltape, the label connected to Staalplaat, the cassette store from Amsterdam (now based in Berlin), is an industrial music label, with releases by Laibach as their first, but before that they released Blue Murder. This was six piece band from Amsterdam, following Soviet Sex, with some great guitar tunes and vocals. Later on they also released a bunch of records. Maarten van der Ploeg became a well-known designer and computer artist and died in 2004. Recently there a book about his life and work was published

Angst ‎– Lies On 45 (cassette, Gezonde Boerse Copulaties GBC 13, 1983)"

I posted quite a bit of music by Angst before. Behind this 'group' is Erik Vloeberghs, who was very active in the 80s, but mainly known for his writing. Slightly absurd, insulting and very funny. His music was mainly collage like sounds made with synths, rhythm machines, much spoken word (cut-up in the best tradition of Burroughs of course) and field recordings, though I am sure it is not a term that was used. I didn't separate the tracks; too difficult. These days Vloeberghs is no longer active with music or writing and spending his days walking the Belgium countryside.

Hessel - Radio Times (Exart Cassettes EA 037, 1991)"

I posted quite some music by Hessel Veldman in the past, mostly in disguise as Y Create or his band Gorgonzola Legs and FNTC. There is more to come from him. This is a solo cassette of his, perhaps made with lots of radio sounds; I don't know. Likewise I have no idea why this is released without his last name. Experimental electronics.

After Dinner - Souvenir Cassette (cassette, ReR Megacorp, 1988)"

After Dinner was formed in 1981 by Haco, a vocalist who wrote both the lyrics and music. The group had a fluid line-up with members from many varied musical backgrounds brought together according to each recording or live performance project. Their collective backgrounds encompass new wave, Japanese traditional, contemporary music, and avant-garde rock.
In 1982, German national radio selected the band's first single (EP), After Dinner / Cymbals at Dawn (Kagero Records, Japan) and placed it on their permanent playlist. In 1983, The album (LP), Glass Tube (Kang-Gang, Japan), was released domestically, and distributed abroad where it received much attention in the European and American "free music" scenes. Sounds, the British music paper, described the record as a unique fusion of Japanese traditional music and electronics "with the delicious voice of Haco holding things together." In 1984, the band made their foreign debut with the album (LP), After Dinner (Recommended Records, UK). In 1987, the group was invited to perform at France's Mimi Festival, and did their first European tour. The band's concert at ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) received the unanimous praise of music publications such as NME, LAM, and Melody Maker, which commented that After Dinner was helping to "reverse Japan's massive importation of Western mega-pop." In 1988, Souvenir Cassette (Recommended Records, UK / Zero Records, Japan), which was tape-edited by Haco from After Dinner's concerts in Europe and Japan, was released.
In 1989, the album Paradise Of Replica (RecRec Music, Switzerland / Zero Records, Japan) was released. The album was described as "a stimulating voyage into a landscape of feelings, sometimes cheerful, bouncing about to change into a reflective melancholic mood." The group successfully undertook a tour of 19 cities in Europe. In 1990, the band also took part in five international music festivals, achieving even greater popularity in Europe. In the same year Haco appeared in the film Step Across the Border, a documentary on Fred Frith, and one of After Dinner's songs, which she played on piano, was included in the soundtrack CD.
In 1991, the band performed at Canada's Victoriaville Festival. ReR Megacorp (UK) released the CD, After Dinner/Live Editions, which re-releaseed After Dinner's 1st album (LP, 1984) and 5 songs from Souvenir Cassette (1988), and 4 additional live tracks (1986-1990). This marked the end of After Dinner.

H.G. Wells - Logic Lunacy (cassette, Wellsound, 1986)"

For nearly 2 years I posted music by Conrad Schnitzler. Mainly because I just happen to get this great collection of some of his really obscure and private releases and I think he's an important artist for electronic music. I believe that I exhausted that collection by now and it was time to stop or move on. Recently I came across a collection that was going up for sale on Discogs and I was granted a look and the possibility to rip whatever I thought was interesting, so for time to come I will post some of that collection. There is quite some stuff in there that is not yet on Discogs, which is nevertheless quite interesting, such as this tape by H.G. Wells. Not the writer but a musician who was on a bunch of compilations I posted years ago (Swallowing Scrap Metal, Illuminated No.2, and others). His most contribution was in 2009 to a compilation. He was also one half of Enstruction who released some great music as well. I always enjoyed his music, being industrial and rhythmic, with some occasional stabs at noise music. I have no idea where H.G. Wells is now. This tape is not yet on Discogs.
